Are you a keen gardener or professional horticulturalist wanting to increase your knowledge and skills?

This 8-session course is ideal for plant enthusiasts – the aim of the course is to encourage expertise and is designed to improve your plant knowledge by looking closely at plants, how they grow and where they thrive.

The course will cover the following:

  • Ten plant identification each week giving you with a good knowledge of key plants, each plant’s origin and plant family and its place in our gardens
  • Look at how plants have adapted to a variety of situations
  • One session on propagation – seed sowing, vegetative cuttings (including hardwood, soft wood, leaf and root), division etc.

  • Look at the form, colour and personality of the plant and how to use that in designing a border
  • Plant combinations – what plants grow well and look good together
  • How to manage the garden through the year, with a focus on seasonal (early spring) tasks
