Mottisfont Abbey and Houghton Lodge
Wednesday 23 June 2010
***** This event has now finished *****
Join us to visit the old-fashioned roses at Mottisfont Abbey, Hampshire! The historic house, built on the 12th century remains of an Augustinian priory, stands in glorious landscaped grounds. However, our main focus of interest will be the walled garden, home to their national collection of old-fashioned roses.
We will also visit Houghton Lodge with its glorious gardens, beautiful trees and swathes of lawn sweeping down to the River Test, with far reaching and untouched views across the valley and over the water meadow. Houghton Lodge boasts a walled kitchen garden, fine herbaceous borders and a ‘peacock’ garden! www.houghtonlodge.co.uk
Leaving Brighton by coach at 9am (tbc), returning around 5.30pm. There is a restaurant at Mottisfont, or if you prefer, do bring your own packed lunch.
The cost of £45 per person covers transport, plus refreshments at the first garden, and fees to the two gardens. Two people booking together will cost £42 each. If you attended the Rose Workshop with Simon White in October 2009, or joined us on our visit to Beth Chatto’s garden in April 2010 – again the trip will cost £42.
If you are a National Trust member there will be a £7 reduction.
