Principles of Horticulture: 16-session course

This comprehensive course will be led by experienced horticulturalist Bridgette Saunders of The Garden House. It is for those of you who have some basic knowledge and experience of horticulture but wish to develop your skills further.
We have split the course into four modules, covering both theory and practice:
Module 1: Propagation
- How to propagate plants from seeds
- Understand the principles and practices of propagation by cuttings.
- How to propagate plants by division and layering
- Practise the aftercare needed to grow on newly propagated plants.
Module 2: Managing your garden
- How to prune plants.
- How to cultivate vegetables.
- How to manage a flower and shrub border.
- How to plan and manage a fruit garden.
Module 3: Organic Gardening
- Principles of organic gardening
- Pest and disease control organically – using traps and barriers (practical)
- Managing weeds organically
- Importance of wildlife in the garden
- Visit to organic allotment
Module 4: Garden Styles and Design
- Surveying the plot and creating a simple site plan
- Measuring techniques for drawing up simple plan
- Garden visit
- Designing with plants
Cost: £395 – to include delicious light suppers with a glass of wine! NOTE: 10% discount for those who have been on one of our garden courses, (first time gardener course, second time gardener course, garden design course).

Dates: Monday evenings – 20, 27 February; 5, 12, 19, 26 March; 16, 23, 30 April; 14, 21, 28 May; 11, 18, 25 June; 2 July (16 sessions). These evening sessions start at 6.30pm and finish at 9.15pm.
