Visit Berlin with The Garden House

At The Garden House we love to travel in search of great gardens and new experiences.  Join us for our four-day trip to Berlin in July to savor the gardens and culture of this wonderful vibrant city.

Berlin is a monument of living history. The Berlin Wall came down in 1989, but both the East and West districts still show evidence of the political, cultural and physical divide that existed for almost 30 years. However, Berlin is not stuck in its past, but has become one of the most fashionable cities in Europe, with a fantastic modern art scene, impressive historic and contemporary architecture and trendy bars and restaurants.

Highlights of our planned itinerary (some details still to be confirmed):

• Berlin guided trip around the city to orientate ourselves and see some of the key sights
• Visit to the Berlin Botanical Gardens
• Visit Potsdam to visit Frederick the Great’s sumptuous summer palace and gardens, the Sanssouci Palace and gardens, with its fabulous rippling vineyard
• Karl Foerster Garden; the gardens created by the nurseryman, Karl Foerster, plant breeder and writer, back in1912. He is famous for originating the naturalistic and architectural garden style, later developed further by designers such as Piet Oudolf
• Two evening meals – we love to find good places to eat and drink!  We plan to eat in one typical German restaurant plus a wonderful vegetarian restaurant
• Three nights bed and breakfast, (German breakfasts are wonderful!), in the Hecker’s Hotel, in the Charlottenberg district, carefully chosen for being both very comfortable with air-conditioned rooms, all superior quality, all en suite – the hotel is small enough to be personal
• Visit to the Jewish museum designed by Daniel Libeskind
• Entry and first drink in a cabaret club

There will also be free time to explore the different areas of the city, the museums, art galleries, and the shops.

The cost  will be £780 per person sharing a double or a twin bedded room, with a supplement of £115 for a single room.

We plan to fly with BA leaving Heathrow Sunday 17 July, and returning Wednesday 20 July.
