What an enjoyable Open Garden weekend!

Posted:27 April 2015

Yesterday (Sunday 26) we opened for the ‘yellow book’ NGS (National Garden Scheme) in aid of charity.   As is typical in spring, the weather was sunny, but also chilly and windy at times!  Fortunately gardeners are a hardy lot, and tempted by great plants and the most delicious homemade food at the pop-up café! – we were happily inundated with visitors.

The Garden House, tucked away in the heart of the city, really is a secret garden – in Victorian times a working market garden. We garden organically and aim to give interest all year round with cut flowers, vegetables, fruit, old climbing roses and a pond. We also propagate many of our own plants from seeds and cuttings.

Over the years we have created many unique features here using a variety of recycled materials – see the photo (lead photo) of a wall mosaic which will be finished in a few weeks time! At the moment the garden has spectacular tulip displays, and much of the support structure for climbers and perennials is in place.

We just need some more rain and sunshine for the seedlings and emerging plants to romp away!

If you missed visiting the garden yesterday, come to our Specialist Plant Fair on Saturday 6 June – another wonderful opportunity to view a variety of specialist plant stalls selling all manner of vegetable seedlings, Dahlias, succulents, herbaceous perennials as well as trees and shrubs. Plus, we will be serving delicious food, homemade and cooked in our outdoor clay oven!
