Botanical Illustration: 4-session course

Tuesday 14th September - Tuesday 12th October

Learn the art of botanical illustration with this intensive 4-session course; suitable for complete beginners and for those with a little experience.  Leigh-Ann Gale has led many highly popular classes here at the Garden House and we look forward to welcoming her back this autumn.

The course will teach you some of the fundamental skills and techniques. As a guide, you can expect to achieve in the following areas: observational line drawing, graphite tonal drawing, lighting theory, accurate and detailed drawing, painting techniques using watercolour*, botanical knowledge and composition.

*If you would prefer to use coloured pencils, techniques will be addressed accordingly.

A full equipment list will be provided before the start of the course

Leigh Ann Gale trained at the English Gardening School, Chelsea Physic Garden, and since graduating in 2004 has become a Fellow of the Hampton Court Palace Florilegium Society. She is also a member of the Sydney Florilegium and the Nymans Florilegium Society. Leigh Ann is an RHS medallist and her work is featured in The Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Pittsburgh, USA plus many private collections both in the UK and abroad. She is the author of ‘Botanical Illustration – the complete guide’ and ‘Colour for Botanical Artists and Illustrators’. Leigh Ann teaches botanical art and illustration throughout Sussex and Surrey.

Cost: £225, to include vegetarian lunch and refreshments
