What's On

Create a Beautiful Alpine Trough

* THIS EVENT HAS NOW FINISHED *

Thursday 17th October

Having long admired the Alpine Trough displays at Chelsea Flower Show, we thought we’d love to have a go – so we have invited Wendy Bates from Rotherview Nursery near Hastings (which won a Gold Medal at Chelsea this year!) to run a workshop here at the Garden House.

Wendy will demonstrate planting a Hypertufa trough. She will bring wonderful alpine plants from her nursery and highlight their care, aspect and site.

Starting with a general overview of the troughs, how they are made and what to plant, and her personal preferences, Wendy will then demonstrate two different ways of planting – traditionally with rocks, and using slate to create a ‘crevicing’ effect.

Using the latter method, each participant will choose plants to use in his/her own planter – purchasing the finished Alpine Trough (the planter and alpine plants selected).

The workshop is limited to 8 participants.

Cost: £75, to include tuition and refreshments (cost of the Hypertufa planter and plants is extra).

Date:  Thursday 17 October 2019 – 10am to 1pm

PLEASE BOOK ONLINE. If you are unable to pay online, please contact us to find out about alternative ways of paying

Venue: The Garden House, 5 Warleigh Road, Brighton BN1 4NT
